What is an "Escape Room"? What is a "Mission"?

Missions are different from Escape Rooms: You won’t be locked inside a room to find your way out. You will receive a mission assignment that you need to complete.

This quest doesn’t take place at URBANescape, but instead in close proximity in the public. You’ll receive a map where you’ll find the right starting point for your mission.

When you’ve arrived at the starting point, you’ll start solving a variety of different riddles and tasks. You have 60 minutes to solve all puzzles, just like you’d have in an Escape Room. You have additional 30 minutes for the way there and back. Thus, the entire game duration is 90 minutes.

All missions take place in roofed public areas, so you can play them with any weather.

Which games are more difficult, Escape Rooms or Missions?

Most groups who have played both game types find Missions to be a bit more difficult.

And the average game time confirms this: lots of groups manage to solve all parts of their assignment, yet they finish the tasks after their time is up.

Therefore, we’d recommend starting out with an Escape Room, and proceeding to Missions when you have your first game under your belt.

What does "duel mode" mean in the Missions?

In a duel, two teams play against each other. At the end of the game you can compare the time it took for you to finish the game: There’s always a winning team to be found!

Not all Missions are available in duel mode. Please see the notes for each individual Mission on the booking page.

Are Missions similar to Foxtrail?
No. With Foxtrail, you need to decipher encoded information in order to proceed to the next point in your assignment. In other words, you’ll go from one point to the next and explore the city while doing it.

Our Missions take place at a public space that’s roofed. When you start solving puzzles and riddles, you will receive codes that will help you proceed to the next stages of the Mission or that will include useful information in order to complete your assignment successfully.

What is an "Outdoor Mission"?

“Outdoor” means that the entire game will be played outdoors in an open area, as opposed to our other Missions that are played in roofed public spaces.

“Mission” means that the game will take place at a single location. Thus, you won’t be walking along the streets of the city looking for clues (like with a paper chase).

What is a "Family Outdoor Mission"?

The Family Outdoor Mission was specifically created for children aged 7 years or in 2nd grade and older. “Outdoor” means that the entire Mission is played outdoors in an open area.

The game duration of a Family Outdoor Missions is approximately 60 to 90 minutes. The game will be finished automatically after 105 minutes.

“Mission” means that the game will take place at a single location. Thus, you won’t be walking along the streets of the city looking for clues (like with a paper chase).

Are the "Family Outdoor Missions" in Zurich and Winterthur identical?

No. Both games have the same name and a similar theme. However, the elves who need help from the children are not the same and they have different puzzles and riddles for them.

The other tasks have a similar approach to solving the puzzles. For example, in both games the children must sort photos from the area in the right order. Yet, the photos are completely different.

That said, you can play the Family Outdoor Mission with the same title at both locations.

Bookings and payments:

Can I show up spontaneously or do I need to book my game in advance?

Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate spontaneous appointments without a booking at URBANescape. You always need to book your game in advance. You can book a game up until 24 hours in advance directly online. For last-minute bookings (less than 24 hours before the game) please contact us directly.

How can I change or cancel my booking?

You can cancel or change your Escape Room or Mission booking up until 48 hours before the game starts. All changes are subject to availability.

For Outdoor Missions, you can cancel or change your booking up until 5 hours before the game starts in case the weather is bad. No cancelation fee will be charged in this case.

We only accept written cancelations or changes to bookings. Therefore, please get in touch via e-mail.

Can we organize a private event at URBANescape?

Whether it’s for team building, a bachelor(ette) party, or a birthday party – we’re happy to help you organize a fun, private event with us!

The only condition is that you need to book at least two double game appointments in our Escape Rooms. This means that both Rooms are played simultaneously for the first round, then both again for the second round. During the break between both game rounds we’re happy to serve you an apéro with some delicious refreshments in out Chill Out Café if you’d like.

Is the Family Adventure in the Jungle suitable for a kids' birthday party?
Yes! All Family Games are perfect for a children’s birthday party or a kids’ party in general.

Since there are plenty of puzzles for the kids to discover and to solve, all children will be engaged and entertained throughout the game.

We would like to organize a team building event with you. How many persons can play simultaneously?

Whether you’re interested in team building, team events, bachelor(ette) parties, school group activities, or birthday parties, we can accommodate several team of players simultaneously at URBANescape:

In Zurich:
Up to 102 persons simultaneously: 12 players in our Escape Rooms and 90 players in our Missions.

In Winterthur:
Up to 42 persons simultaneously: 17 players in our Escape Rooms and 24 players in our Missions.

Choose your location:
Our portable URBANevent Game can be played by up to 200 players at a location of your choice. In teams of 5, you will look for clues, solve riddles, and fulfill a variety of fun tasks.

Before the game:

When should we arrive before the game starts? What happens if we're late?

It’s important that you show up 10 minutes before the game appointment starts.

Before the game, we’ll do a briefing about the story behind the Room and explain the game rules to you. Also, this is the last opportunity to visit the ladies’ or gents’ room before the game starts.

We have a set daily schedule that we need to follow. Therefore, if you arrive late, we can’t postpone your appointment to end later. Thus, the later you arrive, the less game time you have to play.

During the game and after:

Are the Escape Room games scary, dangerous, or frightening?

Not at all. The most important thing about all of our games is that you’re having fun – you won’t find any scary or horror elements in our rooms.

The games consist of riddles and puzzles that you must solve to make it out of the room. The adrenaline rush comes from the 60-minute time constraint for solving all the puzzles.

Every Escape Room game is supervised and monitored by our Game Master. Should you start feeling anxious or claustrophobic, you can quickly get out of the room at any time.

Can I play in English?

Foreign language speaking groups are very welcome at URBANescape! All our staff speaks English.

At least one team member must speak English to understand the game instructions and to explain them to the other players.

The Escape Rooms themselves don’t require any language skills. However, with Missions you should have solid English skills since all of the mission assignment tasks are in written form.

What type of clothing should I wear for the game?

Wear comfortable clothing! For the Missions we recommend wearing comfortable shoes. If you need glasses to read, don’t forget to take them with you!

Which games can I book using a gift card?
You can use a gift card to book any of our games online.
How many persons can play with a gift card?

You can choose the amount of credit on your gift card.

Here’s an overview of the gift card prices for a given number of players in Escape Rooms and Missions (we reserve the right to price adjustments):

  • 1 person: CHF 45,00
  • 2 Persons: CHF 89,90
  • 2-5 Persons in Missions: CHF 119,90
  • 3 Persons: CHF 119,90
  • 4 Persons: CHF 139,90
  • 5 Persons: CHF 149,90
  • 6 Persons: CHF 179,90

If you book a game for fewer players, you can use the remaining credit on your gift card later in the future as long as the gift card is valid.

If you want to book a game for more players, you can pay the difference directly online with a credit card.

What happens if we're less players than the gift card amount would allow for?

If you don’t use up all your credit on your gift card, you can use up the rest for another game in the future as long as your gift card is valid.

Which payment methods can I use?

Online payments are possible only with credit card.

I've already booked a game. Can I change my payment method afterwards and use a gift card instead?
You cannot change your payment method after your purchase. For instance, if you already purchased using a credit card, your purchase is finalized and cannot be changed.
